Tiger Tales: Meet Jeff Hughes

As the Sales Engineer at Tigerpaw Software, Jeff-Hughes gives prospective customers their first-look at our robust business automation platform.

Whether you're a long-time customer, newbie or prospect, you've probably interacted with Sales Engineer Jeff Hughes at some point.

Not only has he been at Tigerpaw so long that he could dress an entire month in just Tigerpaw gear and never repeat an outfit, but he also has spent many years in several departments helping countless customers learn about and navigate our ever-expanding, robust business automation platform.

What brought you to Tigerpaw? What positions have you held?

I am in my 24th year at Tigerpaw. What brought me to Tigerpaw was the commitment and passion of the company founders Dave and Linda Foxall. I knew Dave and Linda on a personal level before I joined the company. In all those years the commitment and passion did not change and is still the same with James at the helm. That is what brought me here and the reason I am still here.

I started with Tigerpaw in sales, then moved to a role in support, which was really my niche since I came from a service environment prior to Tigerpaw. When Tigerpaw expanded its training and education department, I was given the opportunity to become a trainer. While working in Training and Education, I was on loan to the sales team to do online demos.  Several years ago it was decided since all of my time was in support of the sales team, I should be officially a member of the sales team. So, 24 years ago I started on the sales team and have come full circle to the sales team. I have been asked when do I think I will retire, and the answer is when it stops being fun.

 

How has Tigerpaw changed since you first arrived?

When I started, Tigerpaw was a MS-DOS product, we did not have a website, there was no such thing as converged markets, cell phones were the size of a brick and there was no such thing as a mobile app.

 

After working here for so long and in so many different departments, you have such a unique perspective. If you could pick one piece of advice to share, what would it be?

I like to think of myself as someone who is dedicated to offering solutions to business problems that our prospects and customers are needing to solve. If you can let us know what you need, why you need it and how you are getting it done today, in most cases we can offer a Tigerpaw solution to your problem. That right there is what makes my job fun!

 

When you aren’t at Tigerpaw, what are you most likely doing?

Spending time with Mary, my wife of 41 years, enjoying camping with friends and family and being involved with our two granddaughters.

 

What’s your favorite Tigerpaw story?

Wow, this is a tough one. Of course inter-office hijinks always rate high. This one goes back 20 years when we were in a different office and an individual who will remain nameless thought it would be funny to moon a co-worker's office window from outside. The problem was this nameless individual miscounted the windows, and rather than mooning the co-worker, he mooned the conference room where a meeting was in progress with prospective clients.  Fortunately, the prospects were great sports and saw the humor. Yes, it is inappropriate but that right there is funny!
